HEINEKEN is the UK’s leading pub, cider and beer Company and the name behind iconic drinks brands such as Strongbow, Bulmers, Heineken®, Foster's, Kronenbourg 1664 and Desperados, together with a full range of speciality brands.
We employ around 2,000 people across our 8 sites in the UK. We have breweries, cider plants and offices in Edinburgh, Tadcaster, Manchester, London, Hereford and Ledbury.
More than 90% of our beer sold in the UK is brewed in the UK and we are a major supporter of British agriculture, sourcing 100% of our malt and barley for our UK brewed beer from UK farms and maltsters. Around 30% of all UK apples are used to produce our ciders.
HEINEKEN is a passionate supporter of the Great British Pub and through our Star Pubs and Bars business we own a nationwide pub estate of around 2,900 outlets.
We believe that pubs are an integral part of British culture and that well invested pubs run by the right people can prosper and thrive. Since 2012 we've invested more than £100m in our pubs to broaden their appeal for consumers and to get them at the heart of communities.
In 2008, HEINEKEN NV acquired UK brewing and cider business Scottish & Newcastle plc, incorporating it into its existing UK business, HEINEKEN UK. Scottish & Newcastle's history spans across 250 years, tracing its roots back to 1749.Scottish & Newcastle can trace its roots back to 1749 when a 16 year old named William Younger arrives in Edinburgh to start work as a brewer.John Barras Brewery is established in Newcastle, the first of the businesses that will eventually combine to form Newcastle Breweries.Archibald Younger, William's son, sets up his own brewery in the grounds of the Abbey at Holyrood House. He develops a reputation for producing a quality product by using pure water and the best barley and hops.Following a recession and poor harvest in 1838, William Younger & Company looks to the overseas market. With the improvement in passage times within a few years they are exporting to Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Americas.
